Dean Clough is probably the largest surviving mill complex in Halifax and was the home of Crossley's Carpets until the early 1980s. At one time it could boast that it was the largest carpet mill in the world.

Once carpet production ceased the future looked bleak for these magnificent buildings until the site was bought by Sir Ernest Hall and the late Jonathan Silver. They have transformed it into a vibrant and visionary centre for the arts and commerce, combining art gallery and artists studio spaces with office space, a theatre, and recently a hotel.

It is an interesting fact that this complex which was once a major employer in the major industry of Halifax can once again make that boast. The textile industry is now only a small employer in the town but it has been replaced by banking and financial services. Companies from this sector are the major occupiers of office space in Dean Clough.
