About the author.

Martin Roe returned to University as a mature student in 1997 graduating from the University of Leicester with a first class B.Sc. in Archaeology in July 2000. Nominated for several awards he successfully won Leicester University's Garner Prize for the best dissertation combining arts and science and also an Association for Industrial Archaeology Fieldwork Award.

He has spent many years studying the history and archaeology of mining in the north of England and has published a number of papers as well as building and maintaining a large web site devoted to Lead Mining in the Yorkshire Dales.(http://www.mroe.freeserve.co.uk). Currently a post graduate student at the University of Bradford, Martin hopes to start a Ph.D. in the autumn.
